Mirra captures second gold in Beaverton

August 29, 1999

Dave Mirra of Greenville, N.C. added another medal to his collection today at the 1999 ESPN B3 contest, taking the title and another gold medal in the bicycle stunt street competition. Spectators lined up early and waited through slight rain delays to get the best seats in the stands to cheer on Mirra in his flawless performance on the street. ESPN' B3 was held at the Tualatin Hills Park and Recreation District in Beaverton, Oregon and came to a close today.

Mirra, who took first yesterday in the vert competition, was presented with the "DMC" award, which is given each year by the bicycle stunt organizer to an athlete who contributes the most on and off the bike. The original "DMC" award went to Dennis McCoy, bicycle stunt legend, and has been given every year since. "I'm more excited about this award than any medal or victory," Mirra said. "It's truly an honor."

ESPN and ESPN2 will combine to produce more than 16 hours of original programming including 29.5 hours of re-airs and encore presentations. B3 will be broadcast to more than 180 countries and territories on ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN International. Extensive on-line coverage will be available at ESPN.go.com. Updated information regarding B3 will also be available on the B3 hotline at (415)782-8536. The 2000 X Games will be held in San Francisco, Calif.
