The TMR 200: Week 4 rankings

Donald Brown in the top 10?

Yep, it's that kind of week.

I've said it before, I'll say it again -- look for it in this week's Love/Hate! -- sometimes you don't have to be the prettiest girl in the bar, sometimes you just need to be the only girl in the bar.

After getting almost 40 touches last week with the injury to Danny Woodhead, and with Ryan Mathews already on the shelf, expect Brown to get a ton of touches when Jacksonville comes to town. Sure, Branden Oliver will get some work, and he's ranked too, but a guy -- any guy -- getting a lot of carries against that defense? Top 10.

This is a brutal bye week, one of only two in which six teams are off, combining with injuries to put a staggering amount of fantasy talent on the shelf. Giovani Bernard, Marshawn Lynch, Andre Ellington, Montee Ball, Zac Stacy and Terrance West are all on bye. Jamaal Charles, Arian Foster and Doug Martin may or may not play. Matt Asiata time? Matt Asiata time.

Brutal or not, this is a week to take stock and realize this is a marathon and not a sprint. If my team is stacked and I am 3-0 or 2-1, am I dropping someone good for a defense if I have, say, the Seahawks, Bengals or Cardinals? No. Think I'd take the zero and let it ride rather than risk losing a good player for a one-week rental. That said, if I need a one-week rental, it's the San Diego Chargers (available in 96 percent of leagues), who host the Jacksonville Jaguars and that brutal offensive line this week. The Jags will be better with Blake Bortles, but fire the Bolts up with confidence. "Fire up." "The Bolts." What am I, a commercial writer in the '70s? Very possibly.

As we try to plug holes during a bye week, you'll see my confidence remaining in highly drafted players off to a poor start. If Matt Forte and Eddie Lacy don't get it together this week, then you can panic, but I'm hanging tough for one more week.

A reminder that Matt Ryan struggles outdoors, and that that is where Minnesota plays these days, in case you're wondering why he's not in the top five after last week. I also believe the Vikings' defense is better than it gets credit for, but mostly, it's the outdoors thing.

These rankings are published on Tuesday to help with free-agent pickups and to start thinking about the week, but these ranks will remain a work in progress throughout the week as the game picture slowly slides into focus. Always check back with these Sunday morning; we do a final rankings update Saturday night.
