Jack McDowell and his band Stickfigure played a concert the night before the All-Star Game, with Jack's old friend Eddie Vedder joining the band onstage. Randy Johnson showed up for the gig, which included Mudhoney, Supersuckers and Marcy Playground.
Stickfigure's next CD is due out in the next month, and McDowell has made the transformation to full-time musician. "I love this," he said, "but I miss the competition."
McDowell was reminded that Gene Lamont called him "probably the most competive player and best guy I ever managed -- anyone who managed Jack knows why Buck Showalter had him on the mound at the end of the '95 playoffs."
Of course, a few Mariners fans recognized McDowell underneath his beard, and shouted, "thanks for the ballpark."
