Kite to make Senior Tour debut at Royal Caribbean Classic

KEY BISCAYNE, Florida (Ticker) -- Tom Kite hopes his success on the PGA Tour carries over when he makes his Senior PGA Tour debut at the $1.1 Royal Caribbean Classic, beginning Friday at the Crandon Park Golf Club.

Kite won 17 titles in his 28-year PGA Tour career, including the 1992 U.S. Open at Pebble Beach, and was the United States Ryder Cup captain in 1997.

Kite, who turned 50 on December 9, was the first player in PGA Tour history to reach the $6 million, $7 million, $8 million and $9 million mark in career earnings. He currently stands seventh on the all-time money list with $10,539,552.

Bruce Fleisher returns to where all his Senior Tour success began when he defends his title. In his first Senior Tour start, Fleisher posted a two-stroke victory over Japan's Isao Aoki for the first of seven titles he won in 1999 en route to Player of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors.

Fleisher finished 12th in the season-opening MasterCard Championship two weeks ago.

For the first time in the tournament's history, the event will be played under the Modified Stableford scoring system, which rewards aggressive play.

George Archer, who won the Mastercard Championship for his 19th Senior Tour win, is entered this week, along with Allen Doyle, a winner of four titles in his rookie season of 1999.

Former champions entered this week include David Graham (1998), Gibby Gilbert (1997), Bob Murphy (1996), J.C. Snead (1995), Jim Colbert (1993) and legendary South African Gary Player (1991), who captured last week's Senior Skins Game in dramatic fashion with a $220,000 birdie putt on the first playoff hole.

Hale Irwin, who has won 21 titles from 1997-99, is taking the week off.

The Crandon Park Golf Club is a par-72 layout which spans 6,859 yards.
