Bernie Kukar named referee for Super Bowl XXXVI

NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- Referee Bernie Kukar on Thursday was named by the NFL to head the seven-man crew of officials to work Super Bowl XXXVI.

Completing his 18th season as an NFL game official, Kukar will appear in his second Super Bowl in the last four seasons on Sunday when the St. Louis Rams face the New England Patriots. He also worked Super Bowl XXXIII in Miami between Denver and Miami.

Kukar has officiated three conference championships, six divisional playoffs and six wild card games.

The rest of the Super Bowl XXXVI officiating crew will be comprised of Jeff Rice (umpire), Mark Hittner(head linesman), Ron Phares (line judge), Pete Morelli (field judge), Laird Hayes (side judge), and Scott Green (back judge). The officiating crew boasts 70 years of NFL officiating experience that includes three Super Bowls, 44 postseason games and three Pro Bowls.
