Event Description: Archery
Archery is one of the oldest arts still practiced. But at the 2001 ESPN Great Outdoor Games In Lake Placid, you aren't going to see old-fashioned target shooting. Sixteen world-class archers will step up to the line and compete in a head-to-head bracketed format, shooting at six different target positions some obstructed and others unobstructed. A perfect round scores 100 points.
Each of the six stations has its own name. And if you think they'll be easy to hit just take a look at what some of the stations are called: Bermuda Triangle, Thread the Needle and William Tell.
At the inaugural ESPN Great Outdoor Games last July, experts predicted that Keith Brown, George Dixon and Jackie Caudle were the ones to watch. Amazingly, they were right on target, so to speak, as Jackie Caudle took the gold; but not until he defeated his son, Shannon, in the semis. Kelly Ward took the silver. We could see a rematch this coming July. Send this story to a friend | Most sent stories |
