| ESPN Great Outdoor Games schedule released ESPN Outdoors Communications The ESPN Great Outdoor Games, the world's best outdoors extravaganza, brings four days of top-notch outdoor competition to the village of Lake Placid, N.Y. More than 200 of the world's best outdoor sports athletes human and canine vie for medals and prize money in 22 events in four sport categories from Thursday, July 11 through Sunday, July 14, 2002. The event airs on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC Sports beginning July 20. Great Outdoor Games competitors come from 37 states and four countries. Event highlights include a clash for the sharpest eye and keenest arrow in Friday's archery competition at the LP Club Resort, a battle of the scales at Saturday's bass fishing weigh-in and Sunday's true test of speed and agility in the tree topping competition at the Oval. The event welcomes all, free-of-charge, with plenty of spectator seating and viewing areas. The Oval, located on Main St., Lake Placid, serves as the main venue and offers concessions, merchandise and interactive opportunities for spectators. Last year's event drew more than 30,000 spectators to the four-day event.
