In this event twelve dogs and their handlers will compete in mock hunting trials. In each of three rounds, each dog and their handler will complete a simulated hunt where the dog will be retrieve from three to five dummy "birds" which are launched into a meadow in a pattern determined by the course designer, ignoring decoy "birds" and other distractions which will be presented to them. Each dog will begin with a perfect score of zero and will be assigned faults for infractions while completing their trial. Eight dogs will advance from the Quarterfinal to the Semifinal and four dogs will advance from the Semifinal to the Medal Round. The dog in the Medal Round with the lower score (fewest faults) wins the competition.
