AUGUSTA, Ga. -- Rory McIlroy is rapidly becoming one of the world's most famous athletes, but his caddie for the Masters Par 3 Contest might surpass his celebrity status.
Niall Horan of One Direction, who is from Ireland, will caddie for the game's No. 1-ranked player in the annual lighthearted tournament Wednesday. McIlroy hails from Northern Ireland.
"He's been excited to come here," McIlroy said with a smile. "He's never been to the Masters. I caught up with him in Australia at the end of last year and he was really excited, and I said, 'If you're available Wednesday afternoon and you want to carry the bag for nine holes, you're more than welcome.'
"He's excited to be here and [I'm] looking forward to spending a bit of time with him out there tomorrow."
The Par 3 Contest is quickly gaining star power. In addition to McIlroy and Horan, Tiger Woods also said he'll compete -- with both of his children as caddies -- for the first time since 2004.
