PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem earned $5.3 million in 2008, but his base salary of $1.3 million did not change over the previous year, according to a report in the Sports Business Journal.
Finchem's pay last year was higher than in 2007 ($4.76 million) and nearly even with his earnings in 2006, the report stated. The difference from his base salary and total compensation was due to performance bonuses.
If Finchem's 2008 earnings had come on the course, he would have been No. 3 on that year's money list behind Vijay Singh ($6,601,094) and Tiger Woods ($5,775,000). Woods only played six events that year due to knee surgery.
All told, six PGA Tour officials earned more than $1 million in 2008, according to the report.
The information came from IRS forms that the tour is required to file since it is a not-for-profit enterprise.
