HONG KONG -- Top-ranked Rory McIlroy made a double bogey on his final hole Friday, guaranteeing that he'll miss the cut in his Hong Kong Open title defense.
McIlroy shot a 2-over 72 to finish at 5 over after two rounds in warm but windy conditions at Hong Kong Golf Club. It left the Northern Irishman three shots outside the expected cut.
"It's disappointing; you never want to miss the cut and even more when you are defending a tournament," McIlroy said. "So it's not the week I wanted, but then I have a few days to work on my putting and try and get ready for Dubai."
Denmark's Anders Hansen shot a 64 to take the clubhouse lead at 7 under halfway through the second round.
