Muirfield groupings set

GULLANE, Scotland -- Tiger Woods will begin the pursuit of his fourth Open Championship on Thursday afternoon at 2:45 p.m. local time (9:45 a.m. ET) along with former U.S. Open champion Graeme McDowell and former Open champ Louis Oosthuizen.

The groupings were announced Monday afternoon at Muirfield, site of the Open for the 16th time, and run from 6:32 a.m. until 4:13 p.m., with all 52 threesomes playing from the first tee.

Woods won the Open Championship in 2000, 2005 and 2006 and shot his career-worst score of 81 at Muirfield in 2002 when he had won the first two major championships that year. He will play the second round beginning at 9:44 a.m. (4:44 a.m. ET).

Ranked No. 1 in the world, Woods has won four times this year but is coming off poor performances at the Memorial Tournament and U.S. Open, where he was dealing with an elbow injury.

Phil Mickelson, runner-up for a sixth time at the U.S. Open and coming off a victory on Sunday at the Scottish Open, will play with No. 2 Rory McIlroy and Japan's Hideki Matsuyama. They go at 4:44 a.m. ET. Thursday and 9:45 a.m. ET Friday.

Other notable groupings: Tom Watson, Nick Faldo, Fred Couples; U.S. Open champion Justin Rose, defending Open champ Ernie Els and Brandt Snedeker; long hitters Bubba Watson, Nicolas Colsaerts and Dustin Johnson; Masters champion Adam Scott, Matt Kuchar and Luke Donald.
