CARNOUSTIE, Scotland -- This hole is proving to be the toughest on the course, and it did not disappoint Saturday. Just one birdie was made at the 459-yard par-4 that has played into a stiff wind every day.
On Saturday, the hopes of several players took a hit.
Tiger Woods made his first double-bogey of the tournament, falling to 7-over and seven shots behind leader Jean Van de Velde.
One day after a triple-bogey on the hole, Greg Norman hit his tee shot in the water but managed to salvage a bogey.
Even Craig Parry, who had the best round of the tournament, made one of his two bogeys on the hole. Van de Velde managed to get up-and-down for a par from a greenside bunker.
No. 17 saw 26 bogeys, seven double-bogeys and three scores of triple-bogey or higher on Saturday while playing to an average of 4.616. Through three rounds, there have been just 15 birdies at the hole.
