AUGUSTA, Ga. -- The 13th hole is traditionally one of the easiest at Augusta National. It was no different this week.

But while Vijay Singh, Ernie Els, Loren Roberts, Tom Lehman, Phil Mickelson and Davis Love III were picking up birdies on the 13th Sunday, Tiger Woods and David Duval weren't. And it cost them dearly.

Duval's troubles are well chronicled. He had 196 yards to the pin on his second shot, but left the ball in the creek in front of the green. And instead of getting up-and-down from the drop area, he two-putted for a bogey.

"I really don't know what else to say about it," said Duval, who was quizzed repeatedly. "I hit a bad golf shot. I don't know what's so hard about understanding that I hit a bad golf shot."

Woods had different troubles. He hit his drive under the trees, but decided to try and go for the green.

"If it could get a little cut spin, it might roll down to te hole and I might make three," Woods said.

Instead, he reached the bail-out area to the left of the green with his second shot. He couldn't get up and down, however, and settled for a par.

"There was a little pine straw behind my ball, and I had to come out pretty steep," Woods said. "And then, unfortunately, I drove it into the pine straw ahead of me. I hit it a little soft, got over the creek, then I misread the pitch and missed the putt."

Meanwhile, the rest of the leaders were picking up a shot at 13. For Woods and Duval, it was an opportunity lost.
