Duval has been feeling sick since Monday night, and did not play in Wednesday's pro-am event at Colonial Country Club.
PGA Tour officials said Duval hit some balls on the range Thursday, but then decided against playing this week. Duval left the course without talking to reporters.
Duval was to play in a group with defending Colonial champion Olin Browne and Steve Pate, who lost the 1999 Bob Hope Chrysler
Classic when Duval shot the only final-round 59 in PGA Tour history.
Through 11 events this year, Duval has won $1.3 million to rank eighth on the PGA Tour money list. He has five top 10 finishes but has finished no better than third this season.
