MASON, Ohio -- Hubert Green shot a 6-under 64 Sunday, holding off Larry Nelson by one stroke to win the Kroger Senior Classic.

Larry Nelson was trying to become the first player in three years to win three straight starts.
Green birdied five holes on the front nine and eight during the round, en route to his second Senior Tour win of the season. He finished at 10-under 200 on the Grizzly Course at the King's Island Golf Center.

"I knew when I got it to 5-under on the front that I had a chance," Green said. "I almost gave it away on the first couple of holes, though."

Green earned $210,000 in his first win since the Audi Senior Classic in March.

"It's always fun to win," Green said. "It's nice to finish on top."

Defending champion Gil Morgan trailed second-round leader Nelson by one stroke coming into the final round, but shot a 68, falling to fourth place.

John Mahaffey shot a 65 to finish third.

Nelson, who won his previous two tournaments, has 22 consecutive rounds shooting par or better, including a 3-under 67 on Sunday.

"I hit a lot of good shots," Nelson said. "I thought if I shot a 67 I would win, but Hubert played very well."

Nelson was trying to become the first player since Morgan in 1997 to win three consecutive starts on the Senior Tour.

Bruce Fleisher, ranked No. 1 on the tour's earnings list, finished in a tie for sixth place at 5-under 205.
