Tom Watson will defend a Senior Tour title for the first time this week at the Bank One Championship.

Watson gave himself a belated present 15 days after his 50th birthday, winning his first and only Senior Tour title last September with a 20-under 196 at the Bent Tree Country Club.

Watson, who played only two Senior events last year, has won a good chunk of money this year, standing 19th on the money list with $705,761. But he hasn't found the winner's circle, finishing second four times, including a pair of playoff losses.

Watson is third among rookies on the money list, with both Doug Tewell and Tom Kite ahead of him.

Doug Tewell has three tournament titles and one major -- the PGA Seniors' Championship -- and $1,267,394 in earnings.

Kite has two titles and a major -- The Tradition -- and $1,009,602 in earnings.

Both are joining Watson in the field this week in Dallas.

Two of the hottest players on the Senior Tour are also in the field. Larry Nelson, who came up one stroke shy last week of his third consecutive victory, and Gil Morgan, who has four consecutive top-four finishes, will challenge for the Bank One title.

Others in the field include Bruce Fleisher and Hale Irwin, as the race for the money title continues. Hubert Green, who held off Nelson last week at the Kroger Senior Classic, is also playing.

Watson's win last year was a runaway in the inaugural Bank One Championship. He finished at 20-under 196, including a final-round 62, to win by five shots over Bruce Summerhays and six over Morgan.

Next week, the Seniors head to North Carolina for the Vantage Championship before heading West for the final four regular-season events.
