Se Ri Pak goes for three in a row at the Highland Meadows Golf Club when the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic begins Thursday.

Pak won this event in her rookie season of 1998 in record fashion, shooting a 23-under 261. That set a new low on the LPGA Tour, although Karrie Webb has since gone lower at the Australian Masters.

Last year, Pak emerged from an LPGA-record six-way playoff with a birdie at the first playoff hole for the second of four titles she claimed in 1999.

"Many people want to win three times (in a row)," Pak said. "But more than that, I want to play good. This week is a pretty full field with strong players. I know all I can do is go out and play and do my best."

Winless in 12 starts this season, Pak's best finish came two weeks ago with a third-place showing at the LPGA Championship. She had a run of three straight top-10 finishes end at last week's ShopRite Classic, where she missed the cut.

Annika Sorenstam will vie for her fourth title of the season and 22nd of her career. She has seven top-10 finishes in 12 starts this season and is second behind Webb in season earnings with $700,635. Sorenstam tied for 12th at the LPGA Championship before taking last week off.

Webb, who has four wins among a tour-leading 10 top-10 finishes this season, is not entered.

Other notables in the field include Laura Davies and Hall of Famer Betsy King, both two-time winners this year, as well as Pat Hurst and Meg Mallon, each of whom has one victory this season.

Former champions entered include two-time champion Penny Hammel, Jane Geddes, Brandie Burton, Kathryn Marshall and Joan Pitcock.

Janice Moodie, who captured her first career victory at last week's ShopRite Classic, is not playing.

Next week, the LPGA Tour heads to New York for the JAL Big Apple Classic. That is the final tuneup before the U.S. Women's Open, the year's third major.
