With Annika Sorenstam taking the week off, Karrie Webb could surpass her rival for the LPGA Tour lead in victories at the Oldsmobile Classic.

Webb and Sorenstam each have five victories this season, but Webb has claimed two majors, which has helped her stay more than $400,000 ahead of Sorenstam on the money list with $1,568,328.

Webb has been consistent all season, posting 14 top-10 finishes in 16 starts. She is coming off a seventh-place showing at last week's Women's British Open and has four straight top-10 finishes heading into this week's event, where she placed third last year.

Meg Mallon has put together an impressive five-tournament stretch that included a victory at the du Maurier Classic two weeks ago for her second win of the season. She has finished no worse than 10th in her last five outings, placing first or second in three of those starts.

Mallon has fared well at this event with five top-10 finishes in eight starts.

Former champions in the field include Michigan State graduate Barb Mucha, the 1992 champion, Beth Daniel (1994), Dale Eggeling (1995), Michelle McGann (1996) and Lisa Walters (1998), who holds the tournament record with a 23-under 265.

Dottie Pepper, who defeated Kelli Kuehne by two strokes last year, is not defending her title as she recovers from a lumbar back injury. She is expected to return in two weeks at the Betsy King Classic.

Sophie Gustafson, who captured last week's British Open for her second career title, is not entered.
