They may be considered official tour events, but the Silly Season has arrived on the LPGA Tour.

First up is the Samsung World Championship of Women's Golf, an exclusive tournament for 20 of the world's best players. The tournament of champions and two events in Japan will follow before the season-ending Tour Championship.

The World Championship begins a three-year stint at a new course this year, Arnold Palmer's Hiddenbrooke Golf Club. It's the first time the tournament has had a regular home since the 1980s, when both Shaker Heights Country Club and Stouffer PinIsle Resort regularly hosted the tournament.

Hiddenbrooke has a brief history, becoming the newest attraction to California's Wine Country. Just one week after Silverado Resort in Napa played host to a Senior Tour event, the LPGA arrives about 10 miles south.

Eleven of the 20 players in the field arrived by special charter from Scotland, where they participated in a tense Solheim Cup. The three principals involved in a dispute -- Annika Sorenstam, Pat Hurst and Kelly Robbins -- are in that group.

Sorenstam accused Hurst, Robbins and the United States team of poor sportsmanship after she was forced to replay a shot taken out of turn. Her chip from the 13th hole fringe had gone in for birdie, but it was later discovered she was closer than Robbins.

Although Sorenstam left Scotland with a bad taste in her mouth, she did leave as part of the winning team. She'll be joined at Hiddenbrooke by teammates Laura Davies, Janice Moodie and Sophie Gustafson, while Hurst and Robbins will be joined by Juli Inkster, Meg Mallon, Michele Redman, Rosie Jones and Sherri Steinhauer.

Others in the field include defending champion Se Ri Pak, Lorie Kane, Karrie Webb, and first-time participants Charlotta Sorenstam, Grace Park, Mi Hyun Kim, Cristie Kerr, Dorothy Delasin and Soo Yun Kang.

Kang earned a spot in the field by topping the money list on the Korean tour, and she'll head next week to the final stage of Q-School for the LPGA Tour, hoping to make the same successful jump Pak and Kim have in recent years.

While Pak has struggled in 2000, failing to win a tournament after eight wins the past two years, Kim is one of the hottest players in golf. She has top-five finishes in each of her past five tournaments, including one win and one playoff loss.

Annika Sorenstam is looking for a big week as she tries to catch Webb for the season money title and player of the year honors. She enters the week more than $450,000 behind Webb, a six-time winner this season.
