PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- That was the best golf performance I've ever seen.

 Tiger Woods
Tiger Woods didn't miss many putts this week at Pebble Beach.

Nothing else comes close.

You don't do that to this kind of a field unless you've got the whole package. That was on display this week. How good is Tiger Woods:

  • He's the best driver of the golf ball in the world.

  • He's the best iron player in the world.

  • He's got a great short game.

  • This week, he was unbelievable with the putter.

Add to that the fact that he's better than everybody else -- and he knows he's better than everybody else -- and you've got the whole package.

He's the best athlete on the PGA Tour. He works the hardest. He has the best mind.

    Tiger's Week at Pebble
    Avg. drive 299.3
    Fairways hit 41 of 56 (73%)
    Greens in reg. 51 of 72 (71%)
    Putts per round 27.5
    Birdies 21
    Pars 44
    Bogeys 6
    Others 1
    On par-3s 4-under
    On par-4s 4-under
    On par-5s 4-under

    Other than that, he's average.

You can see this kind of thing happening at Augusta National and The Masters, with his length on the par-5s and the fact that he can be 15- or 20-under on those holes.

But not at a U.S. Open. Here, you're bound to mess up. You're bound to have some bad holes. His 21 birdies for the tournament is astounding. Playing two rounds here without a bogey is astounding.

This was as close as you can get to playing a perfect golf tournament. And it was played by as close to a perfect golfer as the game has right now.
