ESPN Player Evaluations
The evolution of the forward position, advanced in recent years by the likes of Amber Harris, Kayla Pedersen and Glory Johnson, continues with Mariah Chandler.
Though certainly powerful enough to play the typical "power" forward spot, Chandler is an inside-outside performer, who runs the floor well, handles the ball, passes it and can shoot out to mid-range. With some improvement on her range, you actually could imagine her as a powerfully built wing.
Chandler's ballhandling may need some tightening, though it was difficult to tell, as she had a heavily taped, injured hand. Even so, her handle was better than most.
When we saw her, Chandler also was playing with a team for the first time, plus playing with older players, so she did not impose herself as we projected she could. In all, we find her approach to be admirable. We saw enough in what she did to be highly impressed.
