ESPN RISE's Football Players of the Week

Trent Richardson, a senior running back from Escambia High of Pensacola, Fla., has been chosen as the first ESPN RISE National Football Player of the Week.

Richardson, an Under Armour All-American Game selectee, rushed for 419 yards on 29 carries and scored six TDs in a 41-7 thrashing last weekend of Milton (Fla.) High School.

The scoring runs of 80, 63, 52, 31, 28, and 4 look like PlayStation numbers. Richardson also said hello to the 400-yard plateau for the second time in his career. Last fall, he ran for 407 yards against Tate in a standout performance that put him on the map.

Of course, Richardson will always be compared to NFL Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith, who starred at Escambia more than 20 years ago.

After his break out performance last year, head coach Jimmy Nichols said, "Richardson is a good player with a chance to be great. He has some work to do. If he improves his work ethic and stays focused, he will be a great back."

The full list of this week's ESPN RISE regional football players of the week follows:

Perry Jones (Oscar Smith, Chesapeake, Va.), a 5-foot-9, 190-pound linebacker/running back rarely came off the field during Oscar Smith's 44-16 victory Sept. 12 over Indian River. Jones was especially explosive in the second half, when the Tigers broke open a tight game they were leading by just 13-7. Jones, a Virginia commit, ended with 27 carries for 228 yards and two touchdowns, according to the Virginian Pilot. He also caught two passes for 58 yards and threw a 27-yard scoring pass.

Midwest Region Football Player of the Week

Defense is the name of the game at Cincinnati's St. Xavier, and Pat Muldoon is a 6-4, 240-pound defensive end and one of the leaders of this year's team. He had 2.5 sacks and 3.5 tackles for loss last week when the team knocked off Don Bosco Prep of New Jersey, 17-10, in one of the nation's biggest games last week. The win upped St. Xavier's record to 3-1 and put the team back into the top 20 in this week's ESPN RISE FAB 50. The only touchdown scored in the game by Don Bosco Prep, which was No. 6 in the FAB 50, came on an interception return.

Southwest Region Football Player of the Week

Thor Woerner (Marble Falls, Texas) led his team to a 40-30 victory over Burnet on both offense and defense. The 6-1, 175-pound option quarterback scored three straight times he ran the ball from distances of 23, 50 and 12 yards as Marble Falls defeated Burnet, 40-30. Woerner ended with 152 yards rushing and threw for 159 yards and one score. According to the Austin American-Statesman, the senior standout also racked up three interceptions as a free safety.

West Region Football Player of the Week

Jack Lomax (Lake Oswego, Ore.) completed 24 of 42 passes for 304 yards and three TDs in a thrilling come from behind win over Jesuit of Portland that determined which team would be No. 1 in Oregon. Lomax is the son of former NFL quarterback Neil Lomax. Senior receiver Micah Hatfield caught the game-winner with 15 seconds left to cap a 66-yard drive engineered by Lomax.
