Turf winner Kalanisi to return in 2001

Contrary to expectations, Breeders' Cup Turf winner Kalanisi will remain in training next year as a 5-year-old.

Kalanisi
Breeders' Cup Turf winner Kalanisi has won six of nine races, finishing second in the other three.
The Aga Khan has decided to keep him with Michael Stoute at Newmarket, realizing perhaps that another of his homebred sons of Doyoun, Daylami, had his best season at 5, when he won the Breeders' Cup Turf.

Kalanisi, who had beaten Montjeu in the 1 1/4-mile Champion Stakes before his big victory at Churchill Downs, has raced only nine times, winning six times and finishing second on three other occasions, for earnings of $2,013,926. Two of his losses, in the Eclipse Stakes and the Juddmonte International, were narrow head defeats to Giant's Causeway.

He also scored a half-length victory in the one-mile Group 2 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot over Dansili.
