DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- Xtra Heat was scratched from Saturday's Group 1 Dubai Golden Shaheen after having injured her left front ankle when cast in her stall on Friday morning.

Trainer John Salzman immediately reported the incident to the stewards of the Emirates Racing Association, who ordered her withdrawal from the $2 million race in which she had finished third last year.

"Xtra Heat has some heat in the ankle but no filling," Salzman said. "She's got a problem and I'm not going to run her."

Salzman also said that Xtra Heat would be shipped back to the United States on Sunday as originally planned. He hopes that she will be able to continue her racing career.

Xtra Heat had drawn post number one in the straight 6-furlong Golden Shaheen. Her withdrawal means that Avanzado will now break from the inside post on the far side rail. Conventional wisdom dictates that a middle draw is more advantageous than a draw on either end of the gate in straight races at Nad Al Sheba.
