| Bol suits up (with 48-inch inseam) but doesn't ride Associated Press | |||

ANDERSON, Ind. -- Manute Bol's career as the world's tallest jockey ended after the first race at an Indiana horse track Saturday night. The 7-foot-7 former NBA player never got on a horse, but he suited up in jockey gear -- specially designed riding silks and white pants with a 48-inch inseam -- and weighed in with the rest of the riders at Hoosier Park, a thoroughbred horse racing track northeast of Indianapolis. "It has been a lot of fun, and I really enjoyed myself," said Bol, whose appearance was to raise money for victims of war in his native Sudan. Money for Bol's Ring True Foundation was collected during the race program through auctions and souvenir sales. "The jockeys are all great, and we had a good time with this event," he said. "I appreciate the opportunity to raise awareness for my organization." Bol participated in the paddock activities and received an honorary license from the Indiana Horse Racing Commission. His other fund-raising activities since leaving the NBA have included a stint with the Indianapolis Ice of the Central Hockey League and a bout with William "The Refrigerator" Perry on Fox's Celebrity Boxing. | |
