Man charged after fence climbing stunt at Dover

A 43-year-old man who police have identified as John Infanti of Greenwood, DE was arrested Sunday after climbing the fence during a NASCAR race in Dover.

Dover Police Department spokesman Master Cpl. Mark Hoffman said the incident, which was captured on live television and numerous Facebook and Twitter accounts, took place around 4:58 p.m. Sunday.

Infanti is seen sitting atop the curved portion of the fence, at one point dangling his right leg over the track as cars drove past.

Hoffman said private security personnel, contracted by Dover International Speedway, coaxed Infanti off the fence, which is in turn four of the race track.

A spokesman for the raceway said the race continued uninterrupted during the incident.

While being taken into custody, Infanti refused to obey officers' commands, kicking one Dover officer in the knee, Hoffman added.

Infanti faces charges of second-degree trespass, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest with force and offensive touching of a law enforcement officer.
