Regan Smith still looking for opportunities: Southern 500 winner Regan Smith told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio on Friday that he's looking for a ride for the upcoming NASCAR season and didn't rule out running in any of the top three national series. Smith, who co-hosted "The Morning Drive," was left without a ride after Tommy Baldwin Racing sold its charter after last season and reduced its involvement in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. The organization has stated it would seek to make the Daytona 500 with Elliott Sadler but not announced any other Cup plans. Asked what he will be doing this season, Smith told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio: "Working on stuff. I wish I had a better answer for you. It's down to crunch time. We'll see what happens. There have been some opportunities here and there. I'll just be brutally honest, when it comes to and pertains to the Cup series, you want to be competitive when you're out there. This year I'm willing to wait until I can get myself in a situation to where I'm competitive and I can actually go out and do what I feel like I'm capable of. With that said, you have a little different mindset during the offseason when that is your thought process. We're working through some stuff. That's not to say that I won't do some Xfinity and Truck races here and there in the meantime. I like racing at Daytona, so I'd like to be down there in something. We'll see how that all plays out. I'm not done racing. I love racing. I love driving cars. I enjoy different kind of things. I'd like to be a part of the sport. Whether that is behind the wheel or different avenues or different things, we'll see how it goes."(NBC Sports)(2-4-2017)

Elliott Sadler to attempt Daytona 500 with Baldwin: Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) announced that the team will compete in the 59th running of the Daytona 500 with Elliott Sadler behind the wheel of the #7 Golden Corral Chevy. The Emporia, VA native and Baldwin have a relationship dating back to their days at Robert Yates Racing when Baldwin served as crew chief for Sadler. "This is a great opportunity for me and everyone affiliated with Tommy Baldwin Racing," said Sadler. "I love the Daytona 500 and to have Tommy and Golden Corral offer me this opportunity is awesome. Tommy and I have known each other a long time. We actually won a qualifying race for the Daytona 500 together back in 2006. We're gonna rekindle some of that magic and work our tails off to get our car in the race. I know Tommy is putting a lot of effort into this and we're gonna go out and get the best result we possibly can for him and TBR's partners." Golden Corral returns for their seventh season together and will bring back their popular 'Top 10 Kids Eat Free' promotion. If Elliott Sadler finishes in the top-10 at Daytona, kids 10 and under will eat free at Golden Corral restaurants nationwide on Monday, February 27th. "We are excited to be working with Tommy Baldwin Racing for the seventh season," said Shelley Wolford, Vice President of National Marketing and Media at Golden Corral. "We will be cheering Elliott on to qualify at Daytona and then race for a Top 10 Kids Eat Free finish."
"We look forward to having Elliott join TBR and Golden Corral for the upcoming Daytona 500," said team owner Tommy Baldwin. "Elliott has always been a strong restrictor plate racer which makes this a great opportunity for everyone involved. We know our fans look forward to the 'Top10 Kids Eat Free' promotion every year so we want to capitalize on that and finish the Daytona 500 strong." With a career dating back to 2001, Lia raced Baldwin on the Tour. Baldwin and Lia have crossed paths before with Baldwin serving as the crew chief for Lia's first NASCAR Camping World Truck Series start in 2008. The program brings Baldwin back to his childhood and sparks great memories along the way.(TBR/140 BUZZ)(1-12-2017)

Tommy Baldwin Racing sells charter: from Tommy Baldwin Racing's Facebook: The season finale at Homestead will be the last race for Tommy Baldwin Racing (#7 Chevy) full-time. We felt that it's time for a new chapter in our lives and we have sold our charter to a great group of people (#95 Leavine Family Racing) who will continue to guide our vision. For the past eight years we've shown up at every race, worked hard to compete at the top level and bring value to our sponsors. I feel confident that we are moving on having accomplished that. There have been many teams like ours that have come and gone. I'm proud that we have been able to sustain ourselves from the very beginning. Over the years we have been fortunate enough to have a great group of people both in the shop and on the road. In this business, you are really defined by the people you employ and I'm grateful for everyone's hard work. Getting sponsors these days is a tough task. Keeping them is even tougher. But we have had so many great supporters of our program. Whether they were a primary, associate or just a one-race sponsor, they were all great to work with and I thank them for believing in us. We've had some really great drivers in our cars over the years. Each of them drove hard every lap - no matter how the car was handling. They always gave 110% and that's all you can really ask from a driver. We're proud of the names that were on the roof of our Chevrolets.
If you're reading this, you already know that NASCAR is the greatest sport in the world. I have been blessed to have a career in motorsports because of how NASCAR has grown over the years. Teams don't always agree with their stance on rule changes or penalties or just the way things are done. But I can tell you that they have gone out of their way to help our team. They've brought us opportunities and have always made themselves available to meet with prospective sponsors if we needed them to. It's been a privilege for me to say that I'm a NASCAR team owner.
Finally, there are you guys. We can't begin to tell you how much your support of our team has meant to us. You're not just fans -- you're friends and family to us. When we have good days, you cheer us on. When we've had rough days, you give us encouragement. You have supported our drivers and our sponsors with so much enthusiasm. I promise you that it never went unnoticed.
So what's next? Well, we're not 100% sure. We are going to work hard to get the best possible results in Miami, take a little family time and then figure out the rest. So, stay tuned - announcements will be forthcoming. Thanks again for everything, TB.(TBR Facebook)(11-17-2016)

For Kids' Sake Foundation Partners with Tommy Baldwin Racing at Homestead: Tommy Baldwin Racing announced that For Kids' Sake Foundation will partner with the #7 Tommy Baldwin Racing team at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend. For Kids' Sake Foundation was created by Megan and Glen Jusczyk after their daughter Malia was diagnosed with stage IV neuroblastoma at 2 ½ years old. Years later, the non-profit is still committed to raising awareness for and improving the lives of children with neuroblastoma throughout the country. The fact remains that every sixteen hours a child dies from neuroblastoma. Although cancer is the number one disease killer of our children, only 3.8% of cancer research funding goes toward pediatric cancer. For Kids' Sake is here to raise money for neuroblastoma research as well as for families of children diagnosed with this horrible disease. Malia Jusczyk, now an 8-year-old neuroblastoma cancer survivor, will join the team at Homestead and help share the message that you can help fight pediatric cancer. Go to www.maliacrushescancer.com to learn how you can help. "We are excited to partner with Tommy Baldwin Racing and the #7 car at Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend," said Megan Jusczyk, Volunteer CEO of For Kids' Sake Foundation. "Not only are we able to get our message out to the millions of people watching during this NASCAR championship weekend, but my daughter Malia, the face of our foundation, will have the experience of a lifetime attending a race close to our home."
"We are honored to support Malia and the For Kids' Sake Foundation at Homestead," said team owner Tommy Baldwin. "Cancer affects so many families and Malia's story touched my heart. We are proudly representing all children and families suffering from this disease through Malia and the For Kids' Sake Foundation."(Tommy Baldwin Racing)(11-17-2016)

Bob and Sharon Leavine have been active in NASCAR since 2010 when they became sponsors in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. Leavine Family Racing was formed in 2011 and has grown to an organization employing 25 people with a race shop in Concord, N.C.(LFR), the sale of the charter kicks this weekend as #59-Michael McDowell is now guaranteed a spot in the race at Homestead while #7-Regan Smith has to qualify on speed.(11-17-2016)

Baldwin meets with employees, 'exploring all my opportunities' for team's future UPDATE3: Unsure about his organization's future, #7 team owner Tommy Baldwin met with his employees Monday "so I can give them the options if they needed to go find a job.'' Baldwin said Tuesday that "I'm exploring all my opportunities right now. I'm trying to figure everything out.'' He hopes to have his plans solidified by some point in December. Among the options, there is one thing Baldwin said he won't do. "I would never shut down,'' said Baldwin, whose team debuted in the Cup series in 2009. "Don't use that word. The options are keep going or sell. That's the only two options we have.'' Baldwin admits he's given his employees a similar message "in six out of the eight years" of the team and always made it to the next season. "The technology has just increased,'' Baldwin said. "Everyone has just become smarter. The race teams, with Michael Waltrip Racing shutting down (after the 2015 season) and some other things, it put a lot good people, dispersed a lot of good people to different teams. Everyone had to spend a lot more money to keep up with the Gibbs and Hendrick programs. It's funny to me how everyone thinks our racing is not good. This is the most competitive that NASCAR has ever been.'' Baldwin admits it has been a struggle at times for the team and driver Regan Smith. Baldwin has one of the 36 charters granted to Sprint Cup teams at the beginning of this season. That adds value to his organization, ensuring that his team - or whoever purchases the charter, if that happens - would be in every Cup points race. Baldwin's car is 32nd in the car owner point standings, ahead of five other teams that have charters (another team below Baldwin's leased its charter for this season). Smith is 33rd in the driver standings. He finished a season-best third at Pocono in August. His only other top-10 finish this year has been an eighth-place result in the Daytona 500.(NBC Sports)
UPDATE: hearing that Baldwin has sold the #7 TBR charter to the #95 Circle Sport - Leavine Family Racing team. Not sure if that means the team will have two charters and run two teams or if Circle Sport gets one of the charters and runs the #33 team again. Supposedly Casey Mears will be the driver of the #95. Rumors have floated around the Ty Dillon would take over the #13 Germain Racing Chevy ride with increased support from Richard Childress Racing. No word if Baldwin would stay on as a part-owner or crew chief, move on to another team or keep running the #7 TBR team as an open team.
UPDATE2: FS1's NASCAR Racehub show confirmed Wednesday with multiple sources that Tommy Baldwain Racing has signed paperwork to transfer ownership charter to Leavine Family Racing (#95 Chevy). It was also reported that LFR leased their charter for 2016, supposedly from Circle Sport, which ran the #33 Chevy for years under the ownership of Joe Falk. Baldwin could play an advisory role with the team. TBR declined to comment. (10-19-2016)
UPDATE3: Leavine Family Racing is in the process of buying a charter for next season as its relationship with Circle Sport owner Joe Falk (who has a charter) will end after 2016, Leavine VP Jeremy Lange said Wednesday. Lange wouldn't confirm from which team it is buying a charter. The team plans to operate one Cup car (the #95) next year with a Richard Childress Racing alliance. Michael McDowell has been the Leavine primary driver since 2014 and has built a good relationship with the team but does not have a deal signed yet to drive for the team next season.(ESPN)(10-20-2016)

Citizen Soldier Film sponsoring Smith at Dover: "Citizen Soldier," a feature film using real footage that follows an Oklahoma National Guard unit during its deployment to Afghanistan will be the primary sponsor for Regan Smith's #7 Chevrolet at Dover International Speedway on Sunday, October 2. Produced by Strong Eagle Media and distributed by Gravitas Ventures and Broad Green Pictures, "Citizen Soldier" is a modern day "Band of Brothers" and documents the Oklahoma Army National Guard's 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team's (nicknamed the "Thunderbirds") 2011 deployment. Set in one of the most dangerous parts of Afghanistan at the height of the surge, it is a heart-pounding, heartfelt grunt's-eye view of the war. The film tells the true story of an exceptional group of young soldiers and their life-changing tour of duty in Afghanistan, offering an excruciatingly personal look into modern warfare, brotherhood and patriotism. For Baldwin, this film hit home due to a relationship with United States Marine Corps Sgt. Derek Stevenin. Through Baldwin's friendship with Derek, Tommy understood the trials he faced with serving five deployments in just eight years. This past Memorial Day, TBR honored Derek and 17 of his fallen brothers on the #7 car at Charlotte Motor Speedway.(Tommy Baldwin Racing), see an image of the car on the #7 team paint schemes page.(9-22-2016)

Tommy Baldwin Racing Salutes New York Modified Legend "Dutch" Hoag: Tommy Baldwin Racing (TBR) will head to Watkins Glen International full of New York flavor. The #7 Advanced Patient Care (APC) Chevrolet will carry the familiar paint scheme of Donald "Dutch" Hoag, a multi-time champion at a variety of short tracks throughout the state. Born in nearby Naples, Hoag also ran four Grand National -- predecessor to the Sprint Cup Series -- races during the 1950's. "We wanted to recognize Dutch for a few reasons," said team owner Tommy Baldwin. "He was one of the drivers that my dad looked up to when he started his modified career. I remember when I was a kid, he'd always talk about how Dutch was always going to be the guy to beat, no matter what track we raced." There was a good reason for that. In additional to the many track championships, Hoag is a multi-time Modified Race of Champions winner. In 1968 he won the coveted event by a full lap. Hoag was also influential in starting many careers. In 1969, Hoag let an eager young crewman take some hot laps in his modified. The following year he fielded a second car for him. That kid, was Geoff Bodine. In 1972, Bodine went on to win his first Race of Champions and had subsequent success in the Sprint Cup Series. "For me, this is not about just running a special paint scheme. It's a true remembrance of a driver who impacted my family and the entire Northeast modified community. My dad would be proud that we're doing this," said Baldwin, who is a native of Long Island. To further the connection, driver Regan Smith was born and raised one-hour North of WGI, in Cato, NY. "If you're from NY, you know Dutch Hoag," Smith said. "It's pretty cool to be able to run his colors this weekend." Hoag, who passed away in May at the age of 89, won on both asphalt and dirt between the 1940's and 1970's.(TBR), see an image of the scheme on the #7 Team Schemes page (8-3-2016)

Fiore passed away last month of an undisclosed illness at age 65. The #44 team was always part of the NASCAR Modified conversations from the 1970's through the early 2000's within the context of winning. In 2000, Fiore and company took Championship honors with Jerry Marquis behind the wheel. In addition to the Series title, Fiore's team won championships at five New England short tracks over the years. Baldwin ran a poll on their Facebook page for the fans to vote on their favorite paint scheme. The iconic Teddy Bear Pools Pontiac was the overwhelming choice.(Tommy Baldwin Racing), see an image of the car on the #7 team paint schemes page.(7-15-2016)

Tommy Baldwin, Jr. Honors Family Friend and Comrades on Sunday: The NASCAR Modified roots run deep for Tommy Baldwin. Growing up on Long Island and working on his dad, Tom's car he forged many close relationships over the course of that era. Twelve years ago, Baldwin rekindled a friendship that dated back to his youth with a friend of his dad's. Several years later "Butch" Stevenin, an avid Modified fan, introduced his son Derek to Tommy. The younger Stevenin is a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps - serving five deployments in the three different Battalions over the past eight years. It was then when Baldwin dug deeper into the work of our military. "It's very eye-opening when you hear stories directly from those who serve our country," said Baldwin. "I've always had an appreciate of what our service men and women do, but Derek has brought me into the trenches with him. We really don't know how much our military sacrifices and what they endure to protect us. It's all very humbling." This Sunday, Stevenin will join the team for the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. But he makes clear that it isn't about him. UPDATE2: Statement from Tommy Baldwin Racing concerning the recent driver change: "The business of NASCAR is no different than any other professional sport. There are a lot of moving parts and pieces behind the scenes that fans and media don't see. Decisions are made carefully over a period of time and are influenced by many factors. As the competition and business models change in NASCAR, it's the responsibility of teams to make decisions accordingly. We felt that we needed to make some changes, and the driver was one of them. The circumstances surrounding Alex's release via social media was unfortunate and certainly unintentional. The culture of doing business in motorsports has become more complex and involves many parties such as agents, business managers, attorneys and sponsors. A comment in passing may be overheard and subsequently conveyed to the media. Our intention, as it always is, was to follow business protocol and notify Alex and his management of our decision. Again, it's unfortunate that confidentiality was compromised, and the news delivered in this manner. Alex Bowman is a talented, young race car driver. He has a good future ahead of him. We appreciate his time with us and wish him well.(TBR Facebook page)(1-23-2016)

Tommy Baldwin Racing Restructures Team: Tommy Baldwin Racing announced major changes within the organization for 2016. Francois "Frankie" Bergeron comes over from Joe Gibbs Racing where, as Fabrication Shop Manager, he oversaw the complete building of their cars for the past five years. Now, he'll take his seasoned experience to TBR where he will assume the same role. "Frankie brings with him a resume full of race wins and experience," said team owner, Tommy Baldwin. "His knowledge and leadership will be an invaluable asset to our program. We're excited to have him join us."
Chad Walters, who worked at Michael Waltrip Racing for the past three years, will lead the race engineering efforts. At MWR, he served as an engineer and R&D Manager. Walters will flank Ed Nathman, who has assumed the role of Simulation and Vehicle Dynamics Manager. Veteran Mike Brill joins TBR as Car Chief of the #7 Chevy driven by Alex Bowman. Most recently at Richard Childress Racing, Brill has been a fixture in the NASCAR garage for many years. He takes over for Ken Davis, who's focus will be at the shop as a chassis specialist and mechanic.
The newly revamped body-building shop will benefit from the addition of two former MWR employees. Both Doug Trader and Brent Patzack bring a wealth of experience to TBR and will complement the existing staff. Additionally, longtime TBR team member, Jamie Tomaino, has been promoted to Shop Foreman. "This is probably the most excited about a season than we've ever been," said Baldwin. "I feel that we've put together a team capable of bringing us to the next level of competition. This business is all about the people and I think we've assembled some of the best." Founded in 2009, Tommy Baldwin Racing is a NASCAR organization that fields the #7 Chevy driven by Alex Bowman in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. UPDATE: Tommy Baldwin Racing and Toy State have announced a multi-year sponsorship agreement for the #7 Chevy driven by Alex Bowman. Toy State sponsored Bowman for nine races this past year (was on the car for the Daytona 500 which the team failed to qualify for), and will be stepping up to 13 Sprint Cup Series races in 2016 and 17 in 2017. TBR is entering its eighth year, but it's the first off-season where the team can concentrate on the upcoming season with sponsorship secured. "It's a nice way to start the new year," Baldwin said, "to have a company like Toy State with all its different brands of toys and Nikko radio-controlled cars." Throughout the season, Bowman's #7 entry will feature many paint schemes closer to what the consumer will actually see in the toy lines. During the announcement, which was held at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, the team unveiled one of the new paint schemes that resembles an RC shark monster truck in the product line. Last year, Bowman and the team participated in many events at hospitals to give toys away to kids and will continue that through this partnership. "It's great to be a part of this," Bowman said. "To have them on our car and to be able to put smiles on kids' faces everywhere we go has been really special." TBR will have an alliance with Richard Childress Racing and ECR engines for 2016. "We've hired a lot of good people to join the good people we already have for next year," Baldwin said. "We're rebuilding our whole fleet and updating to the latest, greatest thing that we need. It's an exciting time for me."(Motor Racing Network), see images of one of the schemes on the 2016 #7 team paint schemes page.(12-15-2015)

Tommy Baldwin Racing Pays Tribute to "Tiger" Tom Baldwin: Tommy Baldwin Racing announced that the #7 Chevy will be a throwback to Baldwin's racing roots and honor the memory of his dad, the late "Tiger" Tom Baldwin. "I'm grateful to Darlington Raceway and NASCAR for creating the 'throwback' theme," said Tommy Baldwin. "My dad had a great influence on my career, where I started working in his shop and later became his crew chief. That ultimately led to where I am today. Having the opportunity to pay tribute to him and say 'thank you' means a lot to me and my family."(Tommy Baldwin Racing), see an image of the car on the #7 team paint scheme page or see all the Bojangles' Southern 500 throwback schemes on the Darlington throwback schemes page.(9-2-2015)

BK Racing, Tommy Baldwin Racing considering merger? UPDATE: Chatter in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series garage this weekend has a potential merger between BK Racing and Tommy Baldwin Racing being considered, CATCHFENCE.com has learned. Both teams have struggled thus far at NASCAR's top level this season, but the merger would combine resources, assets and personnel with hopes of lifting the on-track performance of their drivers. Another possible scenario is BK Racing simply acquiring Tommy Baldwin Racing, sources say. Currently, Tommy Baldwin Racing fields the #7 Chevy for Alex Bowman, while BK Racing fields three cars for rookie candidate Jeb Burton, Matt DiBenedetto and veteran JJ Yeley. Bowman drove for BK Racing in 2014, but left the team to join TBR. Sources tell CATCHFENCE.com if the merger happened, it's likely that Baldwin's team would switch to Toyota and Baldwin taking a director of competition role. A spokesperson for RAB Racing, which currently does not field a full-time team, confirmed that they were involved in an initial discussion with BK Racing, but wouldn't elaborate.(Catchfence)(4-26-2015)
UPDATE: been told this was discussed but no merger will happen.(5-10-2015)

"While I am grateful for all of the opportunities I have had with race teams in NASCAR, I can honestly say I've never been so excited about the possibilities I now have working along-side Tommy Baldwin," said Pemberton. "I have the utmost respect for what Tommy and Beth (Baldwin's wife) have done over the past few years in building this team, basically on their own. I see so many great opportunities to help continue to grow their dream and see TBR compete with the top teams in NASCAR," he added.(TBR)(1-9-2015)
