Orel Hershiser will join Jon Miller and Joe Morgan in the "Sunday Night Baseball" broadcast booth when the Hall of Fame duo returns for its 21st season calling ESPN's game of the week telecast.
ESPN's "Sunday Night Baseball" will open its 2010 schedule on April 4 when the defending World Series champion New York Yankees visit the Boston Red Sox. The game will be telecast on ESPN2.
Hershiser, the 1988 NL Cy Young Award winner and World Series MVP for the Los Angeles Dodgers, has been an ESPN baseball analyst since rejoining the network in 2006. He previously was an analyst for ESPN and ABC for coverage of the Little League World Series in 2000 and '01. He also was a commentator for ESPN's "Wednesday Night Baseball" in 2001.
He replaces Steve Phillips, who was in the "Sunday Night Baseball" booth last season.
Miller received the Baseball Hall of Fame's 2010 Ford C. Frick Award. Morgan was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1990 after a 22-year career that included back-to-back NL MVP awards in 1975 and '76 for the Cincinnati Reds.
"Sunday Night Baseball distinctly offers Jon's Hall of Fame voice and the combination of Joe's Hall of Fame approach to hitting and Orel's profound pitching knowledge," said Norby Williamson, ESPN executive vice president, production. "Collectively, they will provide compelling analysis and debate during our national game of the week."
Hershiser will continue to work as an analyst for "Baseball Tonight" and on ESPN's coverage of the College World Series and Little League World Series.
Hershiser pitched 18 years in the major leagues for the Dodgers, Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants and New York Mets.
He also was a pitching coach and later an executive for the Texas Rangers.
