Dodgers, Ron Mahay agree on deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to sign veteran left-handed reliever Ron Mahay to a non-roster deal with an invitation to spring training.

Mahay will earn $900,000 if he makes the team, a source said.

Mahay, who turns 40 in June, spent last season with the Minnesota Twins, where he appeared in 41 games and held left-handed hitters to a .219 average, .239 on-base percentage and .281 slugging percentage.

If he makes the team, as a second left-hander in the bullpen to complement Hong-Chih Kuo, the Dodgers would be the ninth team Mahay has pitched for in a 15-year career, which he actually began as a position player in the Boston Red Sox chain.
