Dodger Stadium fire relocates fans

LOS ANGELES -- A small, smoky fire in a storage area at Dodger Stadium forced the relocation of fans in a section of upper deck seats but did not stop play between the Dodgers and Florida Marlins on Saturday night.

The Dodgers said the fire was in a confined storage area and the Los Angeles Fire Department quickly contained it. Plumes of smoke covered the area of the upper deck on the first base side.

The Marlins were leading 3-1 in the middle of the fifth inning, when smoke started billowing toward the field. Fans climbed the steps to the top of the ballpark to get themselves relocated. Only one person was left in that area -- the television cameraman who was stationed in the first row above the deck with the luxury suites.

Public address announcer Eric Smith informed the crowd of the situation, saying it wasn't necessary to evacuate the entire stadium.
