LOS ANGELES -- Los Angeles Lakers coach Byron Scott will miss his team's upcoming road games in Oklahoma City on Tuesday and in Minnesota on Wednesday to attend funeral services for his mother Dorothy Scott, who passed away last Sunday at the age of 72.
Scott is expected to rejoin the team in Toronto, where the Lakers will play the Raptors on Friday, and be with the team for the remainder of its five-game road trip.
Lakers assistant coach Paul Pressey will serve as acting head coach in Scott's absence.
During his pregame media session Sunday before the Lakers faced the Philadelphia 76ers at Staples Center, Scott recalled how happy his mother was when the Lakers hired him as head coach in 2014.
"She had been telling me for years that it would happen," Scott said.
He praised her courage and strength, then politely ended the session, brushing away tears as he walked toward his coach's office.
