Junior Pomee to miss 2011 season

LOS ANGELES -- University of Southern California tight end Junior Pomee broke his foot during a Trojans scrimmage Sunday and will miss the 2011 season, coach Lane Kiffin said Tuesday.

Pomee, a freshman from nearby Moreno Valley, joined the team just a week ago because he was required to finish a summer school class at home before enrolling at USC. He had shown flashes in limited playing time since his arrival, including in Sunday's scrimmage, when he turned a short pass from freshman Cody Kessler into a long gain by evading a number of tacklers.

"I thought he was doing great for the little time that we had him," Kiffin said. "So we're excited about getting him rehabbed back and hopefully he'll be ready for the spring.

Over the summer, USC moved longtime tight end Rhett Ellison to fullback, where he's slated to start.
But with Pomee now out for the year and sophomore Christian Thomas struggling to stay healthy, the Trojans moved senior linebacker Ross Cumming to the tight end spot in practice Tuesday, where he could provide depth.

The Trojans' top two players at the position as of now are redshirt freshmen Xavier Grimble and Randall Telfer. Ellison could also move back to fullback at any time.
