Vick report

The Michael Vick show rolled into New York Saturday night for a pre-season screening.

His first (fake) game in the Big Apple as a pro was anything but spectacular. Vick finished 3-for-6 with 24 yards in the air, and matched that total yardage on the ground.

Jets LB John Abraham gave Vick a warm welcome to the NFL with a nice hit during his first series. It was "nice" because if it were a regular season game, Vick probably would not have gotten up. Abraham brings 256 pounds -- and when he really hits you, it's lights-out.

"It's only pre-season, it's not regular season, and I don't want to hurt him or nothing," Abraham said after the game. "It was like he left himself wide open. I helped him get up afterwards."

"It was definitely my hardest hit so far," Vick said of the play.

Welcome to the big show, Mike.

After watching Vick orchestrate four pre-season drives for the Falcons, it's hard to estimate how amazing he's going to be one day. But the potential is clear as day.

Two plays offered a glimpse. First, on a second-and-14, Vick scrambled from the shotgun to his right, picking up 17 yards. Another 15 yards were tacked on when he was hit late out of bounds. The Falcons went up 17-7 on the next play, courtesy of a 22-yard TD run by Maurice Smith.

The second Vick highlight came when he completed a pass to WR Shawn Jefferson for 15 yards while receiving that "love tap" from Abraham.

But Vick also had some lowlights -- especially in holding onto the ball. Twice it was knocked away from him and recovered by teammates.

He says, "The game is slowing down a bit, and I'm getting better, but I'm just one of the guys."

Just one of the guys?

That may be a bit of a stretch, but Vick has already experienced some of the rookie hazing that takes place during training camp. He even had to get up and sing a song in front of the team -- No. 7 chose "We are the World."

"I didn't know all of the words, but they knew what I was talkin' about," said Vick. "I did a little dance at the end."

It's only a matter of time before he learns the "Dirty Bird."
