The Mag's Steve Wulf thinks it could be a very long winter for baseball fans. He wanted to know what you fans will do to pass the time if baseball does not return next season. As promised, here are some of the best fan responses.
I won't be without baseball next season. I may be without major league baseball, but I won't be without baseball. I'll go to as many minor league games as I can, and even visit the local Little League field. A year away from the greedy owners and the greedier players just might be refreshing.
I'd look forward to the 2003 season, if it meant a year off to sort things out once and for all would level the playing field for all teams. As an avid baseball fan for 41 years, it's disheartening to know that you don't win a World Series anymore, you buy one.
If baseball were to cease to exist next year, I would have to say it will cease to exist for me permanently. I hope I am not the only person who feels this way. Let baseball see how good it has it when the people who pay their salaries stop going to the games because they are simply fed up.
Live on. The events of 9/11 have put a lot more important things in perspective, and your question sounds totally irrelevant. What would I do? Spend more quality time with my family, that's what.
Play an entire season's schedule on Playstation -- all the while wiping tears from my eyes at the loss of the world's greatest game.
Well, no baseball means no Red Sox. So I'd have to find some way to fill my life with pain. Perhaps I'd take up experimental medical testing. There is good money in it, and I have nothing against the idea of being a guinea pig. Of course, I'd rather root for my Sox.
On a hot July day, plop a nice chair under the shade of a tree, pop open a cold beer, and celebrate the fact that the Yankees will not be making the playoffs. Sweet.
Something crazy like: Be productive at work; get married; talk to my family ... oh God, no! Don't go baseball! NO!!!
Watch Major League Soccer. Or chew my leg off. I haven't decided.
I don't know yet. Maybe I'll do some things with my wife. I wonder what she looks like with the lights on?
