The WHYLOs of the Week
ESPN The Magazine

Tim writes:
Dear Jackass,
Your completely idiotic commentary of two months ago regarding Invesco Field at Mile High only manifests your complete ignorance to the world as it is. You must understand that the Broncos are moving into a new stadium. Mile High is dead. If the Red Sox built a new ballpark would you want that to be called Fenway Park? I doubt it. You probably would "write" another column bitching and moaning about how history has been trampled upon. If Invesco wants to pay $120 million that's there business, don't insult the company because your feeble mind can't comprehend the complexities of the issue.

Dearest Tim:
Here's a little tip -- when writing into a public forum to call me a jackass and idiotic and to point out both my complete ignorance and my feeble mind, it's a good idea to first make sure your own email is free of fifth-grade spelling errors.

Timmy, tell me, WHO HELPED YOU LOG ON?

Bobbletalk

Just finished reading your column on MLB teams promotional giveaways. It was a great and very funny read, I really enjoyed it. I think you can blame some of the idiot fans who actually go to the game just to get this free crap! I totally agree with you though, it is ridiculous.
-- Jim

What is so morally wrong with Major Leauge Baseball giving out free gifts to their fans? With owners gauging their fans for as much as their worth I don't think it's that wrong to get a free bobblehead or mousepad.
-- Joe

I think you missed the best bobblehead giveaway of the year. July 29th in Milwaukee is Bob Uecker bobblehead day!
-- Bigdog

Baseball has been giving away crap for years ... you're just now catching on? It's not a "gauge [of] just how far the national pastime has fallen". It's a freebie for the kids. Plain and simple. I've got a closet full of that stuff that I've collected over the years. So what? You really must be looking for something to dish about to get all upset over bobblehead dolls. Why must all sportswriters be "jaded" and pine for the game of yesteryear? Today's game is pretty good if you'd simply get over yourself and watch. Sheesh.
-- Mary

O Baron of Bobbleheads!
-- Rich

I think you need to talk to Fox about getting yourself an awards show. The Flemmys. You can combine your WHYLOs, Turkeys of the Year, and Pulse polls. Fox gives everybody awards shows now. And the Flemmy for the Most BobbleHead Worthy goes to ...

Hey Flem, I obviously have been slipping in keeping up with your articles. I didn't read the one about the NAIA tournament until just now, and I just loved it. Especially the story of Ivan and Virginia Crawford. I felt some sort of kinship with Ivan as I too lost my wife several years ago. Mine left me and the kids and ran off with a some cowboy wannabe, but that is a long pathetic story that simply ends "suck it up, life goes on", or as Ivan put it, "Never give up". Wonderful story, keep up the good work.
-- Todd

I am so sick of hearing the Michael Jordan label thrown on Vick. He has potential but is somewhat of a project. He has played less than two seasons of football. He is on the smallish size for a QB particularly one who will leave the pocket to run. Let's just see how the guy turns out before tossing the greatness label on him.
