App Vertical Video
ESPN (US)Overview
The App Vertical Video ad is a premium ad unit for the ESPN app which features a unique video experience. It is built in-house by ESPN and developed specifically for mobile devices.
- When the ad is 50% in view, the muted 6 second video animation will begin and loop three times.
- Users can unmute the ad to view the complete :30 video.

Video
- Auto-play video must use a vertical aspect ratio. Creative submitted in alternate dimensions will need to be reformatted by the client/advertiser.
- Auto-play video is limited to 6 seconds in length. User-initated video may be up to 30 seconds in length.
- User-initiated video may use vertical or landscape format. Landscape video will have letterboxing.
- User-initiated video must not exceed 5MB.
- The video clip and endcard will feature an overlay logo/CTA graphic. Video should be free of text or logos that may affect viewability of the CTA portion of the creative.
- User-initiated video plays inline on Android, in native player on iOS devices pre-iOS X.
Animation/Ad Behavior
- The unit auto-plays when more than 50% of creative appears on screen.
- Auto-play video is limited to 6 seconds and will loop three times before displaying the endcard.
- The endcard is a static panel which cannot animate.
Capping
The Vertical Video 6-second auto-play video is not capped.
Third-Party Tag
Must be first-party served by ESPN. Third-party impression and click tracking is allowed.
Submission Deadline
Please allow five business days for testing and approval.
Restrictions
- Currently, video starts and quartiles are not available within the ESPN App.
HTTPS Compatibility
- All creative, including third-party tags and third-party tracking tags, must use secure protocol (HTTPS).
- Any creative that is not fully secure will be sent back for revisions.
Additional Info
Advertisement and scroll text will be added to the top and bottom of the creative (see above example).
