K-State coach to have neck surgery; return uncertain

MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Kansas State basketball coach Jim Wooldridge will have surgery Wednesday to remove a bulging disc in his neck, and it is uncertain when he will return to the team.

Assistant Jimmy Elgas will be the interim coach, school spokesman Tom Gilbert said Monday.

Wooldridge will definitely miss Wednesday night's home game against Iowa State. The disc problem caused numbness in his upper and lower extremities.

The Wildcats are 12-7 overall and 3-5 in the Big 12 after losing last week to Baylor and Oklahoma State.
