Sidelined by foot injury, Heytvelt likely to see first game action of season

Gonzaga's Josh Heytvelt, who has not seen any regular-season action since February, will play Thursday night in the Bulldogs' matchup against Oklahoma in Oklahoma City, school officials announced.

Heytvelt, a 6-11 junior, has been sidelined this season with a painful stress reaction in his right foot. Rest did not resolve the situation; the second option was to have the foot put in a cast, with no guarantee that that would fix the problem this season. Heytvelt, the leading returning scorer for the Bulldogs (No. 20 ESPN/USA Today, No. 18 AP), chose the third option, which was to have a pin put in the foot. He had the surgery on Nov. 12, and was expected to be out four to six weeks.

Heytvelt has not played in a regular-season game since Feb. 6, after he was arrested, along with teammate Theo Davis, for possession of psychedelic mushrooms. Both were suspended for eight months before being reinstated in mid-October.
