Oklahoma Wesleyan wins NAIA crown

POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. -- Steve Briggs scored 27 points and hit a late, go-ahead 3-pointer to help Oklahoma Wesleyan win the NAIA Division II title game 60-53 over College of the Ozarks on Tuesday night.

The NAIA basketball title is the first for Oklahoma Wesleyan (35-2), located in Bartlesville. The Eagles went 3-1 this season against Ozarks (25-11), which was playing on its home court.

Briggs, who made five of 13 3-pointers and set a tournament record with 26 in five games, put the Eagles up 52-50 with 2:06 left. Sadiel Rojas finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds.

Jared Howerton led Ozarks with 14 points, while Craig Campbell scored 12 and Corey Stone added 11. Oklahoma Wesleyan outrebounded the Bobcats 43-33.

Both schools are members of the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference.
