BYU's Fredette decides to stay in school

BYU's chances of winning the Mountain West Conference took a major step forward with the decision of Jimmer Fredette to return for his senior season.

BYU coach Dave Rose said in a text message that Fredette would return. He also said Fredette injured his quad in a workout Friday.

Fredette and Rose met Saturday prior to the NCAA's 5 p.m. (EDT) deadline to withdraw from the draft. Fredette will enter the 2010-11 season as the favorite to win MWC player of the year.

Rose had also scheduled a game in Fredette's hometown of Glen Falls, N.Y., against Vermont next season.
