SLU readmits PG Kwamain Mitchell

ST. LOUIS -- Saint Louis has readmitted Kwamain Mitchell, the junior point guard who was suspended just before the start of fall practices.

The school said in a release Thursday that Mitchell was eligible to enroll in classes for the spring semester. Mitchell's educational record, including academic standing and matters relating to student contact, were reviewed in making its decision.

Mitchell and center Willie Reed, who also was suspended, were the Billikens' top two returning players from last season. Saint Louis is 5-9 without them, in addition to being without ailing coach Rick Majerus for the next two games.

Upon receiving clearance by the NCAA, Mitchell would be eligible to participate immediately. Majerus has said in the past that he would advise Mitchell, who averaged 15.9 points and three assists last season, to redshirt this season.

Reed was eligible to enroll in classes for the spring semester but,
among other conditions for his readmission, Reed remains suspended
from the team until further notice. The decision to readmit Reed
followed a meeting with university administrators this week.

In Reed's case, the school said it considered academic
performance issues and several previous incidents of misconduct.
Among the conditions the school set for Reed is proof he can be a
successful student.
