Utah has granted a scholarship release to junior Will Clyburn, who led the team in scoring and rebounding this season.
Clyburn averaged 17.1 points and 7.8 rebounds in his first year with the program after transferring from Marshalltown (Iowa) Community College, but asked for his release after coach Jim Boylen was fired following the season.
Both Clyburn and new Utah coach Larry Krystkowiak left open the possibility of his return, but for now the 6-foot-7 Detroit native has been removed from the team's roster and will explore other options.
"I made that decision long before finding out who the new coach would be," Clyburn said in a statement. "Coach K said he had my best interests in mind and if I felt it was right for me to leave, he would honor that. He also said if I decide Utah is still the best place for me that he would allow me to stay, and I really appreciate that."
