CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (AP) -- Eric Coleman had 21 points and 13 rebounds to lead Northern Iowa past Indiana State 73-58 Wednesday night.
Adam Viet added 16 points for the Panthers, including 4-of-7 from beyond the arc.
Northern Iowa (16-13, 8-9 Missouri Valley Conference) led most of the game, its only deficit a 3-2 score in the opening two minutes. The Panthers attempted 39 free throws, making 31 of them to break a three-game losing streak.
Indiana State (14-14, 8-9) was 16-of-21 from the line and shot only 34.6 percent from the floor. Jay Tunnel scored 12 points, the only Sycamore in double figures.
The Panthers built a 30-19 lead with 4:10 left in the first half. The Sycamores pulled within 35-32 at halftime, and Marico Stinson tied the game with a 3 to begin the second half.
Northern Iowa quickly regained the lead, but Indiana State stayed within striking distance for most of the way. Indiana State trailed 58-52 with 5:27 left but did not get any closer.
The Panthers led by nine with 2:44 left and finished the game on an 8-2 run.
