PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Freshman D.J. Rivera scored 23 points as Binghamton defeated Rutgers 66-56 Saturday for its first win against a Big East opponent in seven tries.
Binghamton (4-2), down to eight scholarship players due to injuries to starters Sean Watson and Chretien Lukusa, made 18 of 24 foul shots in the final 5:11 and Rutgers (5-3) never got closer than 49-44 during that stretch.
The Scarlet Knights, who were booed by their home fans, went 9:45 without a field goal in the second half and were never ahead after a 12-11 lead.
Rutgers played without starting forward JR Inman, who suffered an ankle injury Wednesday against Rider and was listed as day-to-day.
