Binghamton 66, Rutgers 56
PISCATAWAY, N.J. -- Freshman D.J. Rivera scored 23 points as Binghamton defeated Rutgers 66-56 Saturday for its first win against a Big East opponent in seven tries.
Binghamton (4-2), down to eight scholarship players due to injuries to starters Sean Watson and Chretien Lukusa, made 18 of 24 foul shots in the final 5:11 and Rutgers (5-3) never got closer than 49-44 during that stretch.
Malik Alvin had 17 points and six assists for the Bearcats, who have won three straight, and Dwayne Jackson added 12 points and six rebounds.
Rutgers shot 35 percent and committed 23 turnovers and was led by Mike Rosario with 14 points. Gregory Echenique had nine points and 12 rebounds.
The Scarlet Knights, who were booed by their home fans, went 9:45 without a field goal in the second half and were never ahead after a 12-11 lead.
Rutgers played without starting forward JR Inman, who suffered an ankle injury Wednesday against Rider and was listed as day-to-day.
