MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- John Flowers set a career high of 16 points and blocked seven shots to lead West Virginia to a 95-71 victory over Oakland on Friday night.
Keith Benson scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds for Oakland, which played its first game since its NCAA tournament berth last March.
West Virginia shot 50.8 percent and had 13 turnovers.
The inside game of the Golden Grizzlies also gave West Virginia trouble, as Oakland scored 38 of its 71 points in the paint and shot 17 free throws.
The victory marks the 14th consecutive win in season openers for the Mountaineers.
