GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Brandon Rozell scored 23 points and four others reached double figures as Virginia Commonwealth defeated UNC Greensboro 101-86 on Friday night in the season opener for both teams.

Joey Rodriguez added 22 points and a school-record 17 assists for the Rams. Jamie Skeen had 22 points for his 16th straight game in double figures, Bradford Burgess added 14 points and Toby Veal had 11 for the Rams.

The Rams led 55-44 at halftime and the lead never dipped below nine points in the second half. Holding an 88-79 lead with 3:39 to play in the game, the Rams scored nine points in a row to put the game out of reach at 97-79 with 1:12 remaining.

Brandon Evans scored a career-high 26 points to lead the Spartans, who are 5-15 in season openers since becoming a Division I program for the 1991-92 season. Korey Van Dussen added 18 points for the Spartans.
