Arizona 73, California 71

TUCSON, Ariz. -- Derrick Williams scored a career-high 31 points, 19 in the second half, and Arizona rallied from a nine-point deficit to escape with a 73-71 victory over California on Thursday night.

Williams grabbed 12 rebounds and broke his school record for free throw attempts, going 16 of 22.

Down 70-67, California had a chance to tie the game when Arizona's Kevin Parrom fouled freshman Allen Crabbe on a 3-point attempt with 33.5 seconds to play. But Crabbe, an 83-percent free-throw shooter, missed one of the three.

Crabbe led the Bears (7-7, 0-2) with 17 points. Jorge Gutierrez added 14 points and four steals. Fourteen of Gutierrez's family members made the 12-hour drive from Chihuahua, Mexico, to see him, for the first time, play for Cal.

Lamont "Momo" Jones and Jamelle Horne each scored 10 points for Arizona (13-3, 2-1).
