Long Island U. 69, Cent. Connecticut St. 67

NEW YORK -- Jamal Olasewere scored 16 points and pulled down 12 rebounds to lead Long Island University past Central Connecticut State 69-67 on Sunday to advance to the Northeast Conference championship game.

The top-seeded Blackbirds (26-5) have won 12 straight games and 20 of their last 21 heading into the title game on Wednesday night.

Jason Brickman hit a 3-pointer with 1:50 left before halftime, giving Long Island its first lead, 28-26, and hit a pair of free throws with 17 seconds remaining in the game to extend the Blackbirds' lead to 68-65 and seal the victory. Brickman also finished with 16 points.

The Blue Devils (19-12) led by as many as 11, 15-4, early in the opening half, but went 6 for 17 from the floor (35.3 percent) to close out the half.

Robby Ptacek scored 15, Ken Horton and Terrell Allen added 13 apiece and Shemik Thompson had 11 points for Central Connecticut.
