Thompson scores 17, leads George Mason to 76-69 win over VCU

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Shevon Thompson scored 17 with 12 rebounds, and Jalen Jenkins had 16 points on 6-of-6 shooting to help George Mason beat VCU 76-69 Wednesday night.

Marquise Moore added 15 points with eight rebounds and Otis Livingston scored 11 for George Mason, which had lost two games in a row and nine of its last 11.

Moore scored five during a 13-4 run that gave the Patriots (10-18, 4-11 Atlantic 10) a 71-64 lead with 58 seconds left.

George Mason made just 5 of 10 free throws from there, but held off VCU (20-8, 12-3), which had beaten George Mason six straight times.

Melvin Johnson hit 4 of 9 from 3-point range and finished with 24 points to lead the Rams. He took over sole possession of first place on the school's career list for made 3s with 279.

George Mason shot 50 percent (26 of 52) from the field.
